Two new models are set to be added to the local Volkswagen Golf range later this month. We’ve already reported pricing for the facelifted Golf R and now we have news on the Golf GTD (read our international driving impression here).
The front-wheel-drive, turbodiesel GTD will start at R506 700 (that's R39 100 less than the Golf GTI), and comes fitted as standard with 18-inch "Sevilla" alloys, dark red LED tail-lamps (with dynamic turn signals), LED headlamps, leather sports seats (with a heating function up front) and an eight-inch touchscreen system.
The 2,0-litre, four-cylinder oil-burner under the bonnet is mated exclusively to a six-speed DSG transmission (nope, no manual option here) and makes 130 kW and 350 N.m, with the latter on tap from 1 500 to 3 500 r/min. VW claims a combined fuel economy of 5,9 L/100 km and a 0-100 km/h time of 7,4 seconds.
Optional extras for the Golf GTD include a panoramic sunroof (R11 500), a manually foldable towbar (R7 300), adaptive cruise control (R5 000), VW's nifty Active Info Display (R8 000) and adaptive chassis control (R12 700), amongst others.
Look out for a twin test of the Golf GTI and Golf GTD in the upcoming August 2017 issue of CAR magazine…
