Hyundai Automotive South Africa has finally scrapped its ageing i10 hatchback range, opting instead to expand its Grand i10 line-up from four to six derivatives.

Back in December 2017, of course, we reported that a new entry-level variant had joined the range, and it’s that 1,0 Motion model that now kicks things off at R149 900. The revised line-up is capped by the 1.25 Glide, priced at R202 900.

Three derivatives in the rejigged line-up are powered by a naturally aspirated, 1,0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which sends 48 kW and 94 N.m to the front wheels. The remaining three models use the familiar naturally aspirated, 1,25-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, worth 64 kW and 120 N.m. Five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions are offered.

Hyundai Automotive SA says it has added a passenger airbag to all derivatives (taking the total to two, including the driver’s airbag), while a multifunction steering wheel is also now standard across the range. All models furthermore feature ABS as standard.

In addition, Fluid and Glide specification now includes an infotainment system with a full-colour touchscreen. Hyundai says customers have the option of buying an SD memory card for R2 500 to activate the built-in navigation system on these models. Fluid and Glide models furthermore feature a two-year/30 000 km service plan as standard.

All derivatives are covered by Hyundai’s five-year/150 000 km warranty, plus an additional two-year/50 000 km powertrain warranty.
