At the end of May 2019, a report suggested Kia would use the “Seltos” badge on its upcoming baby SUV. And now the Korean brand has confirmed this name, while also explaining its etymology.

Kia says the Seltos name was “inspired by Greek mythology and the legend of Celtos, the son of Hercules”. Representing the “brave and assertive spirit” of Celtos, the ‘S’ in the vehicle’s adapted name implies “speed and sportiness”.

The firm says the Seltos was “created for the millennial generation, standing apart from its rivals with a combination of sophisticated, sporty design and the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV – all in a compact package”.

The new Kia Seltos will be revealed at some point in June 2019, before hitting the market in Korea in the second half of 2019, with sales in other regions to “follow soon after”.

Kia promises the Seltos will offer “sophisticated exterior design details”, including a long bonnet, a “strong character line” on the front bumper and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork. A glasshouse tapering towards the rear of the vehicle and a rear bumper with a “metallic muffler effect” are also expected.

Inside, you’ll find a 10,25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and “sound mood lighting”.
