Kia has officially unveiled its new SP Concept at AutoExpo 2018 in India, previewing a new (initially Indian-market only) small SUV.

The Korean brand describes the SP Concept as a “futuristic SUV” with a “robust” front end that features a fresh take on Kia’s signature “Tiger Nose” grille. The intricate headlamp design includes two parts, with the top element connected to the wide grille.

Official images of the rear (other than this shadowy teaser shot) and cabin have yet to be released, but Kia promises that the interior boasts “eye-catching, high-tech elements”.

“Over the last few years, SUVs have become the vehicle-of-choice among Indian buyers. Combining the comfort and space of a sedan with the ability to tackle all kinds of terrain, we intend to storm the market with an SUV that will set new parameters in motoring,” said Peter Schreyer, chief design officer at Kia.

“It’s still a concept – so it’s a little bit exaggerated – but the actual production car will be very close to what you see here at AutoExpo 2018,” he added.

Earlier reports suggested that the production version would likely run on a new platform expected to be shared with the second-generation Hyundai Creta, which itself is due in 2020.
