Lexus South Africa has officially welcomed a fourth variant to its UX range, with the entry-level version of the hybrid model priced at R690 300.

The new UX250h EX derivative slots in above the petrol-powered UX200 EX (R654 700) and below the UX250h SE (R756 200). The UX200 F Sport, meanwhile, still tops the range at R785 400.

As with the higher-spec UX250h SE, the newcomer employs a 2,0-litre, four-cylinder hybrid powertrain with a total system output of 135 kW (the petrol engine offers 107 kW and 180 N.m). The front-driven model will hit 100 km/h from standstill in a claimed 8,5 seconds, before topping out at 177 km/h. Lexus SA lists a combined fuel economy figure of 4,5 L/100 km.

Standard features in the UX250h EX include park distance control, a reversing camera, drive mode select, navigation, cruise control, two rear-sited USB ports and a hands-free boot. The faux-leather interior can be finished in a choice of five colours, while the Japanese firm’s “remote touch interface” with haptic feedback is included alongside a revised infotainment system (now with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility) and an eight-speaker sound system.

A set of 18-inch “aero-ventilating” alloy wheels are included, as are LED daytime running lights up front. Buys have a choice of 11 exterior paint colours.

The brand's seven-year/105 000 km warranty and a maintenance plan (with 15 000 km intervals) of the same length are also included in the purchase price.
