Suzuki has whipped the wraps off its new Across, the first model supplied by Toyota under a “collaborative business agreement” between the two Japanese firms.

Yes, the new Across is effectively a RAV4 in disguise. And, for now at least, it will seemingly be offered exclusively in Europe. Of course, Suzuki has already supplied its first model to Toyota in the shape of the Baleno-based Glanza sold in India.

So, what do we know about this rebadged model? Well, the Across is powered by the same plug-in hybrid system employed by the Euro-spec RAV4, which combines an electric motor on each axle with a naturally aspirated 2,5-litre petrol engine and an e-CVT.

The front-mounted electric motor makes 134 kW and 270 N.m, drawing its energy from an 18,1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack mounted beneath the floor. The rear-mounted electric motor generates 40 kW and 121 N.m, effectively affording the Across an “electronic 4×4 system”. The petrol engine, meanwhile, boasts peak outputs of 136 kW and 227 N.m.

Inside, you’ll predictably notice all manner of bits from the Toyota parts bin, including that floating nine-inch touchscreen display that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
