Performmaster has lifted the wraps off what it bills as “the most powerful G-Class” it has ever created. Equipped with the firm’s tuning package, the beefed-up Mercedes-AMG G63 boasts an increase in performance and top speed.

Under its squared-off bonnet, the AMG-badged G-Class gains a PEC tuning module, while the 4,0-litre V8 mill’s standard turbochargers have been ditched for uprated items featuring a larger compressor system and reinforced thrust bearings for improved throttle response low in the rev range. Finally, the Munich-based company removed the G63’s speed limiter for an increased top speed.

Now churning out a whopping 592 kW and 1 020 N.m of torque, Performmaster says the modified M177 engine can haul the 2,5-tonne SUV to 100 km/h from standstill in just 3,9 seconds, before topping out at 260 km/h.

Manufactured by Magna Steyr in Austria, the standard Mercedes-AMG G63 4Matic (tested in February 2019) sends 430 kW and 850 N.m, available from 6 000 r/min and a low 2 000 r/min respectively, to all four corners via AMG's 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. The Affalterbach-based automaker claims the top-ranked G-Class can complete the 0-100 km/h in 4,5 seconds. Maximum speed is rated at 220 km/h (or 240 km/h when the AMG drivers pack is specified).
