The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Night Edition has been unveiled in the United States, billed as the “absolute pinnacle of luxury”.

The special model, which features distinctive black and carbon-fibre trim, will be limited to just 15 units and offered exclusively in the US.

Powered by the same 463 kW/1 000 N.m twin-turbo 6,0-litre V12 engine employed by the S650 here in South Africa, the special model will hit 100 km/h from standstill in an unchanged (claimed) 4,7 seconds.

So, what sets the Night Edition apart? Well, the Stuttgart-based firm’s US division says the new model boasts “exclusive” interior carbon-fibre trim in the front and rear, along with a carbon-fibre rear spoiler and dark 20-inch Maybach wheels.

Finished in Obsidian Black exterior paint and trimmed in Exclusive Nappa Leather upholstery (in porcelain and black), the S650 also gains “Night Edition” leather floor mats and a boot mat in black with porcelain edges. “Night Edition” badges furthermore adorn the front fenders and various parts of the interior.

How much will this cost in the US? Well, the S650 Night Edition is priced from $242 950, which translates to nearly R4,1-million at the current exchange rate (for the record, the S650 is priced from R3 800 280 in South Africa)...
