The new Porsche 911 Turbo S has been revealed, with its six-cylinder heart offering a peak output as high as 478 kW.

The fresh-faced flagship 911 will be available in both coupé and cabriolet guise, each powered by a 3,8-litre boxer engine featuring a pair VTG turbochargers. The powerplant's peak output of 478 kW is some 51 kW more than that of its predecessor, while maximum torque has increased 50 N.m to 800 N.m.

Porsche says the Turbo-specific eight-speed PDK transmission cuts the sprint from zero to 100 km/h to a mere 2,7 seconds (which is two-tenths faster than before), while top speed is unchanged at 330 km/h. The blast from standstill to 200 km/h, meanwhile, has improved a full second to 8,9 seconds, says Porsche.

The body of the new 911 Turbo S is 45 mm wider above the front axle (at 1 840 mm), while the overall width is 1 900 mm above the rear axle (an increase of 20 mm). Modified track widths, “further developed” aerodynamics and new mixed-size tyres (20-inch 255/35 items fore and 21-inch 315/30 rubber aft) have also been adopted.

The track is now 42 mm wider at the front axle and 10 mm wider at the rear, while adaptive aerodynamics now include controlled cooling air flaps at the front. The large rear wing, meanwhile, has been designed to deliver “even more downforce” than before.

The standard equipment list includes a full leather interior and carbon trim in combination with “light silver” accents. The 18-way adjustable sports seats feature stitching that Porsche says pays homage to the first 911 Turbo, while the centre screen now measures 10,9 inches in diameter.

Other standard features include a GT sports steering wheel, the Sport Chrono package and a Bose surround-sound system.

Porsche South Africa says the new model is already available to order, with the first units set to arrive in May 2020.
