BMW South Africa has confirmed it will expand its 3 Series range from July 2019 production, with the 320i, 330d and M340i xDrive derivatives set to join the local line-up a couple of months thereafter (likely from September).

At the G20-generation model’s local launch in March 2019, just two variants (the 320d and 330i) were offered. But later in the year three more will be available in SA.

The M340i xDrive will sit at the summit of the line-up (before the eventual arrival of the new M3, that is), offering 275 kW and 500 N.m from its turbocharged straight-six petrol engine. With all-wheel drive and an eight-speed Steptronic sports transmission (complete with launch control) included as standard, the Munich-based firm claims the M-badged model will sprint to 100 km/h in 4,4 seconds.

The 320i, meanwhile, will slot in as the entry-level petrol model, powered by a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine sending 135 kW and 300 N.m to the rear axle. In addition, the 330d will be added to the range, slotting in above the 320d and boasting a 3,0-litre inline-six turbodiesel worth 195 kW and 580 N.m.

Furthermore, the local arm of the German firm says new BMW Individual paint finishes (Citrine Black metallic, Oxide Grey metallic, Frozen Dark Grey metallic and Brilliant White metallic) will be available, along with a BMW Individual leather steering wheel and three different BMW Individual interior trim strip designs.

BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and BMW Individual Merino full leather trim (each offered in a choice of five colours) will also be added to the options list.

The M Sport Individual package is another new option set to be offered, combining the M Sport model’s equipment features with new styling details, such as 19-inch BMW Individual light-alloy wheels, a BMW Individual exterior paint finish, BMW Individual interior trim strips, BMW Individual extended leather upholstery Merino and the BMW Individual leather steering wheel.
