Back in October 2018, we brought you local pricing for the new BMW X2 M35i. And now this fiery flagship of the X2 range has officially arrived in South Africa.

Priced from R815 172, the M35i-badged model draws its urge from the most powerful turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine the German brand has yet to offer. It delivers 225 kW and 450 N.m to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic transmission that includes launch control. That’s enough, says the automaker, for a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 4,9 seconds.

The Munich-based firm says the standard M Sport suspension system has been “specifically tuned” for the hottest X2, with an optional adaptive arrangement offering two manually adjustable modes. There’s also an M Sport differential installed in the front axle gear.

The braking system, too, has been upgraded for the X2 M35i, with fixed callipers (painted Dark Blue metallic) and 18-inch steel discs up the front. The new model’s grille features a Cerium Grey surround, with the cooling inlets and side-mirror caps finished in the same hue. Round back, you’ll find an M spoiler and a pair of large tailpipes (each measuring 100 mm in diameter).

A set of 19-inch M Sport light alloy wheels ships standard, while 20-inch items are optionally available. Inside, you’ll find an M Sport leather steering wheel with shift paddles and door entry trims up front bearing the lettering “M35i”.

Other standard features on the SA-spec model include BMW ConnectedDrive services, Apple CarPlay preparation, a navigation system, real-time traffic information, "comfort telephony" with wireless charging and LED headlamps.
