The new Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport has been revealed, with the Molsheim-based firm describing it as an “uncompromising hypersports car” built to be driven hard on “winding roads”.

Just 60 units will be built – each priced from €3-million (that’s about R51-million) ... excluding VAT, of course – with production scheduled to start in the second half of 2020.

The latest version of the Chiron boasts a fresh aerodynamic configuration Bugatti says generates more downforce, while the vehicle’s lower weight (by about 50 kg) “increases agility”. The Chiron Pur Sport’s rear spoiler spans 1,9 metres to generate “serious amounts of downforce”, while the firm claims the diffuser also “significantly” boosts the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

Binning the hydraulic component of the otherwise automatically extending spoiler reduces the weight by 10 kg, while the new magnesium wheel design features optional aero blades. These wheels cut a total of 16 kg and are wrapped in Michelin’s new Bugatti Sport Cup 2 R rubber in 285/30 R20 at the front and 355/25 R21 at the rear.

Titanium brake pad base panels cut the vehicle’s weight by a further 2 kg while brake discs remove yet another kilo from the total. A new chassis setup features 65 percent firmer springs fore and 33 percent firmer items at the rear. The adaptive damping control system has been “geared towards performance”, while carbon-fibre stabilisers have been added to further minimise roll.

While the quad-turbo 8,0-litre W16 is largely unchanged (other than having had its redline raised 200 units to 6 900 r/min, it seems) – still boasting peak outputs of 1 103 kW and 1 600 N.m – it’s now linked to a recalibrated automatic transmission featuring gear ratios configured 15 percent closer together.

Bugatti says the cabin has been conceived to be “deliberately sporty and raw, and has been reduced to the absolute minimum”. Large surfaces have been upholstered with Alcantara to save weight, while new patterns have been lasered into the Alcantara door trim panels featuring contrasting fabric highlights with a "metal look".

“We spoke to customers and realised they wanted a vehicle that is geared even more towards agility and dynamic cornering. A hypersports car that yearns for country roads with as many bends as possible. An unadulterated, uncompromising driving machine,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president of Bugatti.

“By cutting the weight by 50 kg while simultaneously boosting the downforce and configuring an uncompromising, sporty chassis as well as suspension setup, the Chiron Pur Sport boasts incredible grip, sensational acceleration and extraordinarily accurate handling. It’s the most uncompromising yet agile Bugatti of recent times,” he added.
