Jiangling Motors South Africa has launched its new JMC Vigus 5 double-cab bakkie on local shores.

The Chinese bakkie is offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 forms, with the single LX trim level including items such as leather seats, rear parking sensors, cruise control, electric windows, air-conditioning and an audio system with Bluetooth functionality.

Power comes from a Ford-sourced 2,4-litre turbodiesel engine (using the TDCi suffix) worth 103 kW and 310 N.m. This oomph is directed to the driven wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Vigus 5 measures 5 382 mm long, 1 907 mm wide and 1 800 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3 085 mm. The fuel tank holds 68 litres, while the braking system includes discs all round. The standard 16-inch alloys, meanwhile, are shod in 265/70 R16 rubber. ABS (with EBD) and dual airbags ship standard.

Exterior paint colour choices include red, silver, white and dark grey. A three-year/100 000 km warranty and a five-year/60 000 km service plan are also part of the deal.

So, what about pricing? Well, the 4x2 model will set you back R308 000, while the 4x4 derivative is priced at R365 000.
