Kia has released a pair of teaser sketches for its new Sorento, while also confirming the newcomer will make its debut at the 2020 Geneva International Motor Show.

The Korean firm says the fourth-generation Sorento – which is set to arrive with sales of the nameplate sitting at more than three million since its debut in 2002 – has been “designed and engineered to take on everything life can throw at it”.

It’s the first vehicle to be based on Kia’s new-generation midsize SUV platform, something the brand says will see the Sorento “raise standards in its segment for practicality” by offering space “on a par with larger vehicles”.

Interestingly, Kia reveals the new model will be the first Sorento available with a hybrid powertrain. Expect new “advanced driver assistance systems” and “progressive connectivity and infotainment features”, too.

Judging by the teaser sketches (as well as recent spy photographs), the new Sorento will ditch its predecessor's soft lines for a more distinctive appearance, complete with a complex grille design and chunky, vertically arranged taillamps.
