Nissan has finally taken the wraps off its new Terra, confirming that the long-rumoured (and already caught-on-camera) Navara-based SUV will hit the Chinese market later in 2018.

The Japanese automaker released four images and a short video of the new Terra, which has been conceived to take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Everest, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Isuzu MU-X.

While no technical details were revealed, Nissan did say that ?further information? about its new Terra would be made available in April, when we expect the vehicle to make its public debut at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show. That said, it seems likely that the Terra will borrow much of the Navara's oily bits, including its 2,3-litre turbodiesel engine.

"I'm very pleased to announce that the all-new Nissan Terra will soon arrive in China," said Ashwani Gupta, senior vice president for Nissan's light commercial vehicle unit.

"This rugged SUV is practical, authentic, and designed to go anywhere. The Nissan Terra goes on sale this spring, first in China, with other Asian markets soon to follow," he added.

It?s not yet clear whether the Terra ? which could be considered the spiritual successor to the Pathfinder ? will be offered in South Africa, but we?d be surprised if it didn?t eventually make its way to local shores...
