We’ve already published local pricing for the new Audi Q3, but now this second-generation range has officially launched in South Africa. As we reported in July, the local line-up includes just a single engine option at launch.

Yes, only the 35 TFSI powertrain – comprising a turbocharged 1,4-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit delivering 110 kW and 250 N.m to the front axle via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission – will be available (for now, at least). Audi says this model will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 8,9 seconds and top out at 204 km/h.

The Q3 ships standard with LED headlamps (including dynamic turn signals), while Matrix LED items are offered as an option. Eleven paint colours are available, along with two exterior trim lines (Advanced and S line; check out our earlier story for an idea of what each trim level includes) in addition to the standard model. Alloy wheel sizes range from 17 to 19 inches, depending on the chosen exterior trim.

Standard features across the range include a two-zone climate control system, LED interior lighting, a frameless electro-chromatic rear-view mirror, cruise control, electronic stability control, hill-descent control, hill-hold assist, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring. A five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan is also part of the deal.

In addition, a digital instrument cluster with a 10,25-inch screen comes standard, although buyers can upgrade to the 12,3-inch Audi virtual cockpit. The standard MMI radio plus system, meanwhile, includes an MMI touch display with a centrally sited 8,8-inch screen. In MMI navigation plus guise, however, this touchscreen measures 10,1 inches.

Furthermore, Audi SA has introduced a new “package concept” which it says will be adopted for all new models going forward. The idea is to classify “key options according to a specific customer need” and offer a “straight-forward value proposition” that is easy for the customer to understand. As an example, the Comfort package includes storage and luggage updates, parking aid plus, an electric tailgate, electrically adjustable seats, four-way lumbar adjustment and seat heating.
