Hyundai has taken the wraps off the second-generation Creta at Auto Expo 2020 in India ahead of the newcomer’s expected launch in South Africa later in the year.

The original Creta arrived in South Africa in February 2017, with the facelift following relatively soon after in September 2018.

Now the second-generation version (sharing much with the Hyundai ix25 revealed in China in 2019) has officially shown its face, with a local launch pencilled in for the final quarter of 2020.

In terms of exterior styling, the new version looks markedly different to its forebear, adopting an intricate split-headlamp arrangement (like its smaller Venue sibling) and a fresh interpretation of the Korean firm’s signature cascading grille.

Round back on this Indian-spec model, you’ll find distinctive new LED taillamps, a fresh tailgate design (with centrally arranged “Creta” lettering) and even a cheeky roof spoiler. The profile, meanwhile, is dominated by dual-tone 17-inch alloys and silver trim that extends from above the doors to cover the C-pillar.

While Hyundai has yet to show off the cabin of the new Creta, it has confirmed a new multifunctional steering wheel and the fitment (in India, at least) of automatic climate control.

The engine line-up has also not yet been announced, although media in India speculate the new Creta will borrow powerplants from its Kia Seltos cousin.
