If you enjoy some sort of internet connection and have a passing interest in the automotive, you’d likely already have seen the leaked images of the new, sixth-generation Opel Corsa. Well, now the German firm has officially taken the wraps off its fresh-faced hatchback, interestingly starting with an all-electric version.

Boasting a claimed range of 330 km, Opel says the order books (in Europe, at least) will soon open for the Corsa-e, with petrol and diesel models to follow thereafter.

The brand's new Corsa – the first Opel to be fully developed under the PSA Group banner, and sharing its platform with the latest Peugeot 208 – measures 4 060 mm long, while its roofline is some 48 mm lower than that of its predecessor (the driver, meanwhile, sits 28 mm lower).

The new Corsa-e employs a 50 kWh battery that Opel says can be fast-charged to 80 percent of its capacity in 30 minutes. The five-seater hatchback is prepared for all charging options – via cable, wallbox or high-speed charging – and the battery is covered by an eight-year warranty.

Peak outputs come in at 100 kW and 260 N.m, with the obligatory dash from standstill to 100 km/h taking a claimed 8,1 seconds. Three driving modes (normal, eco and sport) are featured. Sport “increases responsiveness and driving dynamics”, with what Opel calls a “moderate loss of driving range”, while eco mode "significantly” increases the range.

The Corsa-e is offered with various big-car features, such as Matrix LED headlamps, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot assist and a “variety of parking assistants”. Infotainment options include a 7,0-inch touchscreen and a flagship 10-inch version with navigation.
