Opel South Africa has confirmed it plans to introduce the Combo Life people-mover to the local market in the third quarter of 2019, with the larger Zafira Life expected to join the range in 2020.

The five-seater Combo Life is, of course, closely related to the Combo cargo van that arrived on local shores in April 2019.

Like that commercial model, the SA-spec Combo Life will be powered by a 1,6-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine worth 68 kW and 230 N.m. Opel SA claims a combined fuel consumption of 5,0 L/100 km (we suspect a five-speed manual will ship standard).

Drop the 60/40 rear bench and the German firm says the Combo Life will happily handle up to 690 kg. Braked towing capacity, meanwhile, comes in at 1 100 kg (with an unbraked figure of 720 kg).

A touchscreen-based infotainment system is likely to be standard. Opel SA’s three-year/120 000 km warranty and three-year/60 000 km service plan (with intervals of 15 000 km) will apply.

Opel SA has furthermore confirmed the Vivaro and Movano cargo models will join the firm’s growing light commercial vehicles range in 2020, along with the Zafira Life passenger vehicle.
