Opel South Africa has announced local pricing for the Corsa GSi, which is set to slot in at the summit of the Corsa range when it arrives in May 2019.

Set to serve as something of a swansong for this generation of the nameplate, what with the next-gen Corsa hatchback just around the corner, the GSi-badged model shares its 110 kW/220 N.m 1,4-litre turbocharged petrol engine (and short-ratio, six-speed gearbox) with the Corsa Sport.

The German firm says the warm hatch will hit 100 km/h from standstill in 8,9 seconds, before topping out at 207 km/h. It will sip at around 6,3 L/100 km, according to Opel.

But the GSi also also gains OPC-developed sports suspension and uprated brakes (complete with red callipers), as well as 18-inch alloys wrapped in 215/40 rubber. Bespoke exterior features include larger front air intakes, a cheeky rear spoiler and chunkier side sills. Inside, the Corsa GSi boasts (heated) Recaro sports seats up front, a flat-bottomed “sport steering wheel” and alloys pedals.
