Audi South Africa has confirmed the outgoing RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan are back on sale locally thanks to the arrival of a “final production allocation”.

In December 2018, the Ingolstadt-based firm’s local arm told CARmag.co.za that supply of the two compact performance models to South Africa had been temporarily halted.

Now, after a longer-than-expected wait, the all-paw hot hatch and performance sedan have finally returned to the German company’s local line-up, albeit in “limited” numbers.

“South Africa has received a limited and final production allocation on the current generation RS3 Sportback and Sedan,” Audi SA confirmed to CARmag.co.za.

“This means that local customers can look forward to having the option to purchase these models from our local Audi Sport dealerships once again, while stock lasts and in anticipation for the new generation model, which is currently being tentatively planned for launch in 2022,” the company added.

While the new S3 Sportback and Sedan have already been revealed (and should hit SA towards the third quarter of 2021), Audi has yet to take the wraps off its new RS3 siblings.

As a reminder, the outgoing RS3 Sportback and RS3 Sedan each employ a turbocharged 2,5-litre five-cylinder petrol engine sending 294 kW and 480 N.m to all four corners via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. That's enough, says Audi, for a 4,1-second sprint to 100 km/h and a top speed of 250 km/h (or 280 km/h, should you tick the appropriate box).

Pricing now starts at R1 019 500 for the RS3 Sportback and R1 029 500 for the RS3 Sedan (before the vehicles were removed from the local configurator late in 2018, the hatchback was priced at R903 500 and the sedan at R933 500).
