The Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster was revealed in Frankfurt back in September, and now we can bring you local pricing for this mid-rear-engined V12 roadster.

In South Africa, the Aventador S Roadster will start at R8 233 979 when it arrives in 2018. A few jabs on a calculator will reveal that this makes the Roadster some R745 979 (or about the price of the new BMW X3 xDrive30i) more expensive than the coupé.

The Sant’Agata Bolognese automaker says the Aventador S Roadster weighs 50 kg more than the coupé, matching its sibling’s top speed of 350 km/h. Its 6,5-litre V12 makes the same 544 kW at 8 400 r/min and 690 N.m at 5 500 r/min, which Lamborghini says is enough for a 3,0-second blast to 100 km/h (one-tenth slower than the coupé).

The Roadster’s rear features different lines to that of the coupé, with an engine bridge running from the back window to the rear in a mix of body colour and matte-black painted carbon-fibre engine bonnet blades.

Removable hardtop roof panels, which Lamborghini says weigh less than 6 kg, are convexly moulded to maximise cabin space, and can be specified in a number of finishes. The brand says an “easy fastening system” allows the roof panels to be quickly removed and stored in the front trunk. The rear window, meanwhile, is electrically operated to allow the driver to experience the full aural experience served up by that hefty V12.
