Renault South Africa has given its Sandero Stepway the Techroad badge (which has already been used in the Duster line-up), effectively renaming the flagship version of its popular cross-hatch.

The Stepway Techroad replaces the Stepway Plus at the summit of the local Sandero range. And, from what we can tell, there’s very little to separate the two models.

Priced at R243 900, the Sandero Stepway Techroad features the same 16-inch wheels and gloss-black side-mirror caps as the outgoing Plus model.

Other standard features include a seven-inch touchscreen (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality), a reverse parking camera, a leather steering wheel and cruise control.

The Techroad, however, does at least gain a new upholstery design, featuring distinct blue detailing on the seats and throughout the cabin.

Under the bonnet, nothing’s changed, with the turbocharged 0,9-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine still offering 66 kW and 135 N.m, delivered to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox.

The French firm’s five-year/150 000 km warranty ships standard, as does a two-year/30 000 km service plan with 15 000 km intervals.
