Suzuki South Africa has expanded its Swift range with the addition of a new high-specification GLX derivative.
The newcomer joins the local line-up soon after the launch of the flagship Swift Sport, slotting in below the latter but above the existing GA and GL variants. Of course, the Swift was the driving force behind Suzuki SA's best sales month yet, achieved in July 2019.
While the latest derivative employs the same 61 kW/113 N.m naturally aspirated 1,2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine used in the rest of the range (with the exception of the Swift Sport, which boasts a turbocharged 1,4-litre unit), the GLX gains items such as automatic climate control and a seven-inch touchscreen.
It will be offered in both five-speed manual (R199 900) and a five-speed automated manual (R214 900) guise.
The Swift GLX rides on newly designed 15-inch alloy wheels (wrapped in 185/65 rubber) and boasts rear parking sensors as well as a reversing camera. Keyless entry (and a start/stop button) are also part of the new trim level.
Inside, you’ll find a leather-clad steering wheel and a height-adjustable driver’s seat, along with the aforementioned touchscreen arrangement. The latter offers voice command, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, and Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
As with other Swift 1,2 models, the GLX comes standard with a five-year/200 000 km (promotional) warranty and a two-year/30 000 km service plan (the Swift Sport, meanwhile, doubles that service plan).
