Audi South Africa has released initial details of the facelifted A4 sedan range (including the S4) that is expected to arrive locally in the second half of 2020.

The refreshed A4 line-up will comprise a pair of TFSI-badged derivatives at launch. According to Audi SA’s website, both will feature turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder engines.

The first 2,0-litre model (likely to be badged as the A4 35 TFSI) will offer 110 kW, matching the peak output of the 1,4-litre unit at the base of the outgoing, pre-facelift line-up. The second petrol model (set to be badged as the A4 40 TFSI) will generate 140 kW, as before.

Interestingly, each of the petrol engines will gain a 12 V mild-hybrid system as standard, complete with a belt-starter generator and a lithium-ion battery, in a bid to improve fuel efficiency.

The Ingolstadt-based firm’s local arm also suggests a 2,0 TDI derivative is on the cards, producing 110 kW (down from the pre-facelift A4 40 TDI’s 140 kW). This oil-burning engine, however, is scheduled to join the local range only at a later stage.

The S4, meanwhile, is also pencilled in for a local introduction. From what we understand, this Audi Sport variant will again feature Audi’s single-turbo V6, sending an unchanged 260 kW and 500 N.m to all four corners. The new TDI version of the S4 sedan revealed in Europe in 2019 is not coming to South Africa, while there's no indication yet of when the facelifted RS4 Avant will hit local dealers.
