It’s been a long wait but we finally have local pricing for the refreshed Audi R8 V10 ahead of the official launch in South Africa.

So, how much are we looking at here? Well, according to Audi SA, the R8 Coupé V10 Performance will be priced from R3 336 000, while the R8 Spyder V10 Performance will start from R3 592 500.

As a reminder, the platform-sharing Lamborghini Huracán Evo kicks off at R6 345 000 in coupé form and R6 950 000 in Spyder guise, though its version of the V10 makes a little more oomph (470 kW and 600 N.m).

For the record, the Ingolstadt-based firm’s local website suggests the naturally aspirated 5,2-litre V10 in the updated R8 generates 449 kW and 560 N.m in SA-spec form. This results in a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in a claimed 3,1 seconds for the coupé and one-tenth slower for the soft-top model (top speed is listed as 331 km/h and 329 km/h, respectively). As before, drive is delivered to all four wheels via a seven-speed S tronic transmission.

Revealed back in October 2018, the facelifted R8 furthermore benefits from modifications to its suspension and steering systems, resulting in what Audi calls “even more stability and precision”. The company also claims the drive select dynamic handling system modes have been “even more sharply” separated from one other.

In terms of styling, the updated R8’s grille boasts a wider, flatter line, while thick bars divide up the large air inlets, and three slits at the front edge of the bonnet provide a nod to the past. The new front splitter is also wider, while under the bonnet the air filter is sited under a three-part cover, offered in a choice of plastic or carbon-fibre.
