Audi has taken the covers off its facelifted SQ7, which is still powered by a 4,0-litre V8 turbodiesel offering 320 kW and a whopping 900 N.m to all four corners.

The reveal comes after the Ingolstadt-based firm facelifted its Q7 range, and also unveiled its SQ8.

Like that SQ8 – and indeed the Bentley Bentayga Diesel – the refreshed SQ7’s twin-turbo oil-burning V8 is assisted by an electrically powered compressor, which is fed by a 48 V system.

Peak torque is thus on offer from as low as 1 250 r/min through to 3 250 r/min, while the sprint from zero to 100 km/h takes a claimed 4,8 seconds (with top speed electronically limited to 250 km/h). The SQ7 features an eight-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel-drive, along with sport air suspension and progressive steering as standard.

In terms of exterior styling, the updated SQ7 is set apart from standard models by twin slats in its grille, aluminium-look side-mirror caps and four chrome-tipped tailpipes. It also features sportier front and rear bumpers.

As standard, the SQ7 TDI runs on 20-inch wheels in a five-spoke turbine design, wrapped in 285/45 rubber. Brake discs measuring 400 mm are fitted to the front, with 370 mm items employed aft. Black brake callipers ship standard (red versions are optional), while a 20-inch brake system with carbon-fibre ceramic discs will be offered upon request.

UPDATE: Audi South Africa says the facelifted SQ7 is scheduled to launch locally in the first quarter of 2020...
