Jaguar has unwrapped its facelifted E-Pace, switching the crossover to a new platform and adding both a plug-in hybrid variant and a P300 Sport model.

The refreshed range is expected to arrive in South Africa in the first half of 2021, though the line-up's exact composition has yet to be revealed.

Now running on the British firm’s latest Premium Transverse Architecture, the updated E-Pace benefits from what Jaguar calls “improved” front suspension attachment-point stiffness, reduced vibration and harshness, and enhanced comfort and refinement.

So, what about that P300 Sport derivative? Well, the new range-topper employs the firm's turbocharged 2,0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, sending 221 kW and 400 N.m to all four wheels via a nine-speed automatic transmission. Jaguar says that’s enough for a sprint from zero 100 km/h in 6,9 seconds.

The P300 Sport furthermore features items such as active damping and adaptive dynamics, while running on 20-inch five-spoke allows and benefitting from the Black Exterior Pack. Inside, you’ll find illuminated treadplates, a Meridian audio system and sports seats.

There’s also a fresh P300e PHEV powertrain, which combines a 147 kW 1,5-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine with an 80 kW electric motor (sited on the rear axle), a 15 kWh lithium-ion battery and an eight-speed automatic cog-swapper. Jaguar says this variant boasts a 55 km electric range and a 0-100 km/h time of 6,5 seconds, with a combined peak power output of 227 kW.

Other engine options include the P250 (a 2,0-litre turbo-four with 184 kW and 365 N.m) and the D200 (offering 147 kW and 430 N.m from its 2,0-litre turbodiesel heart).

What sort of changes (other than exterior styling) have been made across the range? Well, Jaguar has added its latest 11,4-inch curved-glass touchscreen to the cabin, running the new Pivi Pro infotainment system.

In addition, the company claims “touchpoints” around the cluster are now wrapped in soft-touch materials, while the new drive mode selector is lower and wider. There’s also a fresh steering wheel and embossed “Leaper” emblems on the headrests.
