Kia Motors has released the first official images of its facelifted Stinger but has held back information on what it describes as the fastback’s “new powertrain line-up”.

While the design changes are subtle, the Korean firm claims the updates “amplify its gran turismo character”, while also pointing out improvements have been made to the cabin quality.

So, what sort of design changes have been implemented? Well, look closely and you might notice revisions to the LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

At the rear, you’ll also find updated taillamps complete with a new lighting signature, extending the full width of the vehicle. The new indicators round back comprise ten LED units each, arranged in a grid pattern to “mimic the appearance” of a chequered flag.

The facelifted Stinger is expected to hit the market in Korea in the third quarter of 2020, with sales in “many of Kia’s global markets” to follow later. However, Kia Motors South Africa says it has “no immediate plans to introduce the enhanced Stinger to the local market”.

Kia says it will reveal more details about the upgraded Stinger “soon”, including its “new powertrain line-up and technologies”. As a reminder, the pre-facelift Stinger was offered with a 272 kW/510 N.m twin-turbo, 3,3-litre V6 petrol engine.

Flagship derivatives will be available with larger bright silver tailpipes and a “performance-inspired” rear diffuser. New 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs have also been added to the mix, along with a new exterior colour. Kia has furthermore created a new “Dark Package” for certain global markets as well as a fresh “Black Package” set aside for North America.

Inside, the updated Stinger gains “visual and material upgrades”, while rear-view mirror is now frameless. Kia has also added an upgraded 10,25-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system.
