Ford has officially revealed the new Fiesta ST, confirming that the B-segment blaster will be powered by a three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine.

The unveiling of the hot hatch comes after the automaker revealed the cooking versions (including a sportily styled ST-Line variant) of the all-new, seventh-generation Fiesta range late last year.

The next-generation Ford Fiesta ST will be powered by an all-new, three-cylinder, 1,5-litre EcoBoost engine, complete with the fuel-saving cylinder-deactivation system that will first be seen on the latest version of the brand's 1,0-litre EcoBoost engine. No mention of transmission options is made in the initial press material, but the photographs do show a six-speed manual gearbox.

Shown for the first time ahead of its global public debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, the new Fiesta ST will deliver 147 kW, 290 N.m and an "anticipated" 0‑100 km/h acceleration time of 6,7 seconds (compared to the 134 kW, 240 N.m and 6,9 seconds of the current 1,6-litre model).

It will also feature selectable drive modes for the first time, enabling engine, steering and stability controls to be configured to Normal, Sport and Track modes, with the latter seeing traction control disabled and ESC interventions set to what Ford describes as "wide-slip mode".

The drive modes will furthermore adjust the new Fiesta ST's "Electronic Sound Enhancement" (piped in noise, then) technology and active exhaust noise control valve.

Ford says the new global product will be launched in early 2018 in both three- and five-door body styles.

Inside, the new Fiesta ST will feature Recaro front seats and a flat-bottomed steering wheel. Exterior colour options will include a new Liquid Blue hue, while the hot hatch will run on exclusive 18-inch alloys.
