Known locally as the Toyota Conquest, the AE92 Toyota Corolla hatchback received a GTi 16 derivative in international markets. As standard, this Japanese hot hatch sported a naturally aspirated 4A-GE 1,6-litre engine sending 96 kW and 145 N.m to the front wheels. This gave it a modest 0-100 km/h time of around 8,5 seconds.

As featured by Speedhunters, a private owner in Sweden has decided this car should provide more thrills ... and has thus taken the time and money to convert it into a six-cylinder, rear-wheel drive performance car.

The focus of this build is the engine. The original 4A-GE has been swapped out for a stronger 3,0-litre straight-six 2JZ-GTE with a single turbo conversion. On top of this, an aluminium intercooler, Forge 44 mm wastegate and blow-off valve, three-inch stainless steel exhaust, AEM 320lph in-tank fuel pump, Nuke Performance fuel filter, PTFE steel braided fuel hoses, K&N air filter and DO88 silicone hoses have been installed. All of this brings the power output to 294 kW.

Turning this into a rear-wheel-drive machine, the owner has installed a Getrag V161 six-speed gearbox, Torsen LSD, a shortened propeller shaft and front and rear axles sourced from an A80 Supra. The uprated suspension includes coilovers, eight-piston 380 mm front and four-piston 356 mm rear brakes by D2 and a Wilwood proportioning valve with steel braided brake hoses. A set of 19-inch Advanti Vertex black alloy wheels with Dunlop tyres completes the package.

The head-turning fibreglass wide-body kit and bonnet is completely custom and houses a tube-frame chassis with a roll cage, while Toyota Red 3E5 paint covers the body. Inside, you'll find a custom fibreglass dashboard with an integrated TRD combination meter from the Supra, custom gauges, black Alcantara custom floor and side panels, and custom headlining. A pair of Sparco Sprint racing seats with harness belts and a suede steering wheel rounds off the track car feel.
