Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has released the first official images of its new Caddy Mini-Camper.

Billed as the successor to the Caddy Beach, the new Mini-Camper will be based on the fifth-generation Caddy. The Wolfsburg-based firm says the newcomer will boast an “entirely new” bed concept that has been redeveloped to offer greater versatility, along with a 1,4 m2 panoramic glass roof.

VW describes the new Mini-Camper as the California’s “small brother”, saying it has been conceived for all who seek “maximum flexibility from their car, so that they can embark on the occasional spontaneous micro-adventure”. Lightweight camping chairs and a table from the California are “cleverly stowed” in the rear.

Expect the powertrain range to include four-cylinder petrol and engines. The new compact camper is scheduled to be revealed at the beginning of September.
