Volkswagen South Africa has confirmed it plans to expand its locally built Polo Vivo hatchback range with a new special-edition model featuring a “proudly South African” name.

The Polo Vivo is, of course, the country’s best-selling passenger vehicle.

The Wolfsburg-based firm’s local arm says the upcoming special variant will be based on the 1,4 Comfortline hatchback derivative, with its naturally aspirated petrol engine offering 63 kW and 132 N.m to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox.

According to VW SA, the newcomer will hit local dealerships in September 2020. It will effectively serve as a follow-up to the Polo Vivo Sound Edition launched in September 2019.

Expect more details (including the name) to be revealed in the next week or two…
