Volkswagen South Africa has rejigged its Kombi range while also adding a new Trendline Plus variant using the 2,0 BiTDI powertrain.

Previously, this 132 kW/400 N.m engine (mated to a DSG transmission) was offered in Comfortline trim only. Priced at R659 700, the newcomer is some R76 000 less expensive than the Comfortline flagship. It slots in above the 75 kW and 103 kW versions of the Trendline trim level.

‘‘We have restructured the Kombi range in order to cater for the needs of our customers and as such the Kombi range is now available in the following derivatives: 2,0 TDI 75 kW Trendline standard and long wheelbases, 2,0 TDI 103 kW DSG Trendline and Trendline Plus, 2,0 BiTDI 132 kW DSG Trendline Plus and the top of the range 2,0 BiTDI 132 kW DSG Comfortline,” said Mark Handley, head of Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles SA.

The Trendline Plus specification level includes 17-inch “Devonport” alloy wheels, LED headlamps, LED taillamps, dynamic headlight range control, parking sensors (front and rear), reversing camera and a fixed tow bar.

The firm’s “Composition Media” audio system (with AppConnect and six speakers), rubber flooring and cruise control are also included, with carpets, faux-leather upholstery and extra airbags offered as options.

As with other variants in the range, the newcomer features a three-year/120 000 km warranty and a five-year/60 000 km maintenance plan.
