The new generation Mahindra Scorpio SUV is scheduled to arrive in South Africa soon and we've managed to track down pricing for the two derivatives that will be on offer.

The 4x2 model will be priced at R283 995, while the 4x4 variant will come in at R299 995 (interestingly, the all-wheel drive variant is around R10k cheaper than the model it will replace).

Both models are powered by the Indian brand's 2,2-litre turbo-diesel mHawk engine worth 88 kW and 280 N.m, with the latter on tap from 1 800 r/min to 2 800 r/min, and both employ five-speed manual gearboxes.

Mahindra claims a combined fuel consumption of 7,2 L/100 km for both eight-seater models, despite the fact that the 4x4 derivative features low-range and auto-locking hubs. Towing capacity is a claimed 2 500 kg for both.

Besides the updated styling (and new 17-inch alloys), the new Scorpio SUV looks to be fairly well equipped, featuring standard items such as a six-inch touchscreen system (with navigation), auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors and cruise control. The automaker also claims significant improvements to ride comfort and handling.

However, as before, it seems just two airbags (dual front) will be offered, along with a three-year/60 000 km service plan (with intervals of 10 000 km). Expect five exterior colours to be available.
