In January 2019, CARmag.co.za reported that Nissan South Africa had quietly added a new, tech-filled flagship derivative to its Micra range, expanding the local line-up to four variants. And now the local arm of the Japanese automaker has officially announced the arrival of the Micra Acenta Plus Tech model, priced at R299 900.

The range-topping version of the fifth-generation Micra features the brand’s so-called “Nissan Intelligent Mobility” technology package, which includes an “around view monitor”, moving object detection, blind-spot warning and intelligent emergency braking.

The Micra Acenta Plus Tech model also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility (via the seven-inch touchscreen), plus a dedicated “Siri” button on the steering wheel.

The flagship model furthermore benefits from rear parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding side-mirrors and an electro-chromatic rear-view mirror. Hill start assist, intelligent trace control (essentially a system that “adjusts brake pressure” at individual wheels through bends) and intelligent ride control (again, applying subtle braking to ostensibly prevent “upper body motion over bumps”) are also included.

The Micra Acenta Plus Tech runs on 17-inch alloy wheels, and boasts a leather steering wheel and an “Energy Orange” interior. It ships standard with a six-year/150 000 km and a three-year/90 000 km service plan.

As with the three other derivatives in the local Micra range, the Acenta Plus Tech model draws its urge from a turbocharged 0,9-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which sends 66 kW and 140 N.m to the front axle via a five-speed manual gearbox. Expect Nissan SA to add a new engine option to the Micra line-up later in 2019.
