Opel has taken the covers off its new Zafira Life (also unveiled in Europe as the Vauxhall Vivaro Life), billing the multi-purpose vehicle as both comfortable and “fun to drive”.

The fourth-generation van will be offered in three lengths: the 4,60-metre “Small”, the 4,95-metre “Medium” and the 5,30-metre “Large” (each of which comes with up to nine seats).

For context, Opel says the “S” version of the Zafira Life is around 100 mm shorter than the current Zafira, while the “L” is about 650 mm longer (and thus nearly as lengthy as the Vivaro Combi).

The Zafira Life will make its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show later in January 2019, with order books in initial markets opening in February (it’s not yet clear whether this model will be offered in South Africa).

A 4x4 version will be offered from launch, with the all-wheel drive system supplied by Dangel. An electric version, meanwhile, is expected to be added to the range in early 2021.

The Zafira Life “S” boasts two sensor-controlled sliding doors that open electrically with a movement of the foot. The “M” and “L”, meanwhile, each feature a 350 mm longer wheelbase (at 3,28 metres), which the German brand says results in more legroom for the rear passengers. The largest version has a maximum luggage capacity of “around” 4 500 litres.

Inside, you’ll find a 7,0-inch touchscreen featuring phone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
