The new Honda Ballade (which is known as the “City” in markets outside South Africa) has scored five stars for safety in its ASEAN NCAP crash test.

According to the New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP), the fresh-faced sedan scored an overall tally of 86,54 points, which equates to five stars.

The Ballade managed 44,83 points for adult occupant protection, 22,82 points for child occupant protection and 18,89 points for its safety assist technologies.

ASEAN NCAP reported the vehicle’s front occupant compartment “remained stable in the frontal offset test”, with the data obtained during the test suggesting “good protection to both of the adult occupants, with an exception to the dummies’ lower legs”.

In Thailand, all versions of the new sedan ship standard with four airbags, a seatbelt reminder system (for front occupants) and electronic stability control. Urge comes from a turbocharged 1,0-litre three-cylinder VTEC unit, which offers the front wheels some 90 kW and 173 N.m.

The new Ballade is expected to launch in South Africa later in 2020, although engine options and specifications have yet to be confirmed.
