Earlier in January 2019, BMW whipped the covers off its facelifted 7 Series, handing its flagship luxury sedan a larger version of the signature kidney grille plus a number of other updates. Now we have managed to unearth local pricing.

Set to launch in South Africa at some point in the second quarter of the year, BMW Group South Africa will offer only long-wheelbase derivatives (and thus no longer the standard-wheelbase models), mirroring the approach taken by Mercedes-Benz South Africa with its S-Class.

Although the local 7 Series line-up will likely eventually number at least five derivatives, thus far we’ve managed to find pricing for only three variants.

According to BMW’s online configurator, the 740Li (interestingly, a derivative not even mentioned in the international press material) will be priced from R1 645 990, while the 290 kW plug-in hybrid 745Le xDrive (with its specially adapted six-cylinder inline petrol engine and “more advanced” high-voltage battery) will start at R1 748 342.

The 750Li xDrive, meanwhile, with its newly developed 4,4-litre V8 engine (churning out 390 kW) will be priced from R2 170 994. No word yet on pricing for the M760Li xDrive (which makes use of the firm’s 430 kW 6,6-litre V12) nor the diesel-powered (195 kW) 730Ld.

As a reminder, the facelifted 7 Series ships standard with the BMW Live Cockpit Professional system, comprising a navigation and multimedia system, together with a fully digital, high-resolution instrument cluster with a screen diagonal of 12,3 inches, plus a control display measuring 10,25 inches across.

The brand’s so-called “Intelligent Personal Assistant” is another element of the newly included BMW Operating System 7.0 system.
