It’s been a long wait, but we can finally bring you local pricing for the facelifted Mercedes-AMG C63 S, which was revealed in coupé guise back in March 2018 and is expected in South Africa in the near future.
Locally, the C63 S will be offered in three body styles: sedan, coupé and cabriolet. Each gains a fresh look (including a new AMG-specific grille and remodelled twin tailpipe elements) plus an upgraded transmission with added ratios.
The three variants each employ an unchanged twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 engine directing 375 kW and 700 N.m to the rear wheels. The seven-speed gearbox of the pre-facelift model, however, has been replaced with an AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission with wet start-off clutch.
The Mercedes-AMG C63 S sedan kicks off at R1 546 600, before CO2 emissions tax. Opting for the coupé will see the starting price rise some R62 500 to R1 609 100, while the cabriolet version will come in at R1 728 700 (or some R182 100 more than the four-door model).
The 0-100 km/h sprint claims are unchanged, which means the C63 S still hits three figures in 3,9 seconds in coupé form, 4,0 seconds in sedan guise and 4,1 seconds in topless configuration.
Inside, you’ll find a new optional fully digital instrument cluster with a 12,3-inch screen diagonal, while a media display measuring seven inches (with a resolution of 960 x 540 pixels) comes standard. An alternative here is the 10,25-inch media display (with a resolution of 1920 x 720 pixels), which comes standard in conjunction with the Comand Online system.
There’s also a new steering wheel design that Mercedes-AMG describes as “extremely sporty”, with a heavily contoured rim. Trimmed in Nappa leather, the flat-bottomed tiller features “touch control” buttons and is complemented by galvanised steering paddles.
