A fresh report out of the United Kingdom claims Bugatti plans to build a new electric, four-door sedan running on the platform that will underpin the new Porsche Taycan.

According to CAR magazine UK, the French automaker’s upcoming sedan will use a stretched version of the J1 platform from Porsche (a sister brand under the Volkswagen Group umbrella, of course).

The report furthermore speculates Bugatti could revive the Royale badge for the all-electric sedan, with elements of its exterior styling expected to draw inspiration from the 1927 original, too.

The publication claims the new sedan will not be shown in production form before 2023, with Bugatti expected to offer “more developments” of the Chiron in the meantime.

Of course, Bugatti showed off the 16 C Galibier fastback concept (pictured above) back in 2009, with a production version (widely expected to be named the Royale) initially scheduled to arrive by 2015. That, of course, didn’t happen.

Interestingly, in January 2019, the brand’s president Stephan Winkelmann stated “there will be no SUV from Bugatti”. A month before that, the former Lamborghini boss said if the firm “did a second model, it would enter into a different segment”.

Earlier in March 2019, Winkelmann told Bloomberg: "I would see us doing a battery electric vehicle".

"There the balance between performance and comfort is much more important, and it’s about daily usability," he said.
