A fresh report out of Brazil suggests Volkswagen is preparing to start production of a new Polo Track variant, which might just end up being the long-awaited successor to the CrossPolo.

According to a post on the Sindmetau (a metalworkers union in Brazil) website, VW will fairly soon commence the exclusive production of a new “Polo Track” derivative at its Taubaté factory in the state of São Paulo.

Interestingly, that plant currently does not produce the Polo hatchback, though the website suggests it will start building an MQB-based model (presumably the Polo) from November 2020.

As motor1.uol.com.br points out, there has yet to be any official word from the Wolfsburg-based company on what form the new Polo Track variant will take.

Still, our money is on a successor to the CrossPolo, complete with black plastic cladding, more generous ground clearance and "Track" decals … just like in the renderings above, courtesy of Brazilian designer Kleber Silva. We would, however, also add chunky roof rails, larger alloy wheels and a contrasting colour finish for the side-mirror caps, plus some faux-skid plates fore and aft.

The Track badge certainly isn’t new in South American markets, where it has been applied to models such as the Up (Brazil’s Up Track, for instance, is similar to the Cross Up once sold in South Africa), Gol and Fox.
