A new report out of the United States suggests Ford will return to V8 power for a special new version of its F-150 Raptor.

According to Car and Driver, “multiple sources” within the Blue Oval brand have confirmed plans for a special-edition Raptor using the Mustang GT500's supercharged 5,2-litre V8 petrol unit.

The current F-150 Raptor, of course, employs the automaker’s turbocharged 3,5-litre V6 petrol engine.

This rumoured new model, the publication claims, will effectively serve as a swansong for the F-150’s current generation. That means it can be expected late in 2020 or early in 2021.

Car and Driver speculates the V8 will offer around 515 kW in this extreme version of the Raptor, and be mated to the brand’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
