A digital artist has released a batch of renderings of a Hyundai-badged body-on-frame double-cab bakkie conceived to battle the likes of the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger.

Enoch Gabriel Gonzales, a designer from the Philippines, published the renders online, pointing out that his creation is not meant to depict the unibody Santa Cruz set to go into production in the United States in 2021.

Instead, this virtual bakkie is effectively what Gonzales thinks the Korean firm’s proper ladder-frame model (which Hyundai officials in Australia have already confirmed is in the pipeline) will look like.

Handing it the “Tarlac” badge (seemingly named after the province located in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines), Gonzales clearly drew styling inspiration from Hyundai’s latest large SUVs.

Up front, you’ll notice the distinct lighting signature and prominent grille (the artist depicted a couple of options of the latter), while the flanks feature bold character lines and the rear a set of modern-looking taillamps.

He even created a workhorse variant featuring a black plastic front bumper and obligatory steel wheels. Head over to his Behance page to see the full collection of renders...
