A fresh report out of China suggests Lexus plans to will launch a new entry-level crossover based on the recently revealed Toyota Yaris Cross.

According to autohome.com.cn, Toyota’s luxury arm will offer the baby BX from 2023.

The publication claims the new BX will slot in below the UX and borrow many of its sibling's styling cues. Like the Yaris Cross, it should run on the Japanese firm’s TNGA-B platform.

Expect the newcomer to measure under 4 500 mm in length (for reference, the Yaris Cross measures 4 385 mm nose to tail).

The report furthermore suggests the BX will borrow its hybrid powertrain from the Yaris Cross, which employs a 1,5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine and an electric motor, with a total system output of 85 kW. The AWD-i system will likely also carry over.
