A Porsche executive says the German firm is still "discussing" the topic of creating a two-door Panamera, which would compete with the likes of the BMW 8 Series coupé.

Thomas Friemuth, Porsche's vice-president for the Panamera product line, said the Zuffenhausen-based company was still mulling its options.

“We have not finally decided yet. So we are just discussing this topic for several years as you can imagine since other competitors also have two-door cars,” Friemuth said, according to motoring.com.au.

“Be we’re not finally yet ready to decide whether to do this or not. We have quite a nice two-door car in our programme called the 911,” he quipped.

“We are always looking at new opportunities to get new markets and more customers. I can talk about it when we have the decision for it – not yet. I have a lot of ideas.”

As the Australian publication points out, a two-door Panamera would effectively serve as a long-awaited successor to the Porsche 928.

The facelifted Panamera was recently revealed (with SA pricing hot on its heels), complete with a fresh Turbo S variant positioned at the summit of the range.
