An Indian digital artist has released a rendering of the upcoming facelifted Toyota Fortuner based on the latest spy shots.

As we reported back in January 2020, the Japanese firm’s bakkie-based SUV is expected to adopt a refreshed front end with its imminent mid-cycle update.

Shoeb Kalania, who created the rendering for IndianAutosBlog.com, interestingly opted to give the Fortuner a face partly inspired by the Land Cruiser Prado rather than by the RAV4, as that earlier report suggested.

The digital transformation shows new LED headlamps, a redesigned grille, fresh foglamps and an updated front bumper. We earlier reported the mid-cycle update would likely also include “small changes” to the black plastic cladding affixed to the Fortuner’s flanks and the adoption of new alloy wheel designs.

Minor changes to the rear end and cabin are also likely, with the latter set to benefit from an updated touchscreen infotainment system, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Based on reports about the upcoming Hilux facelift, the Fortuner’s 2,8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine could also be in line for a little extra oomph.

The current-generation Fortuner was revealed in 2015 before hitting the market in South Africa at the end of the first quarter of 2016. The strong-selling local range (built at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal) currently comprises nine variants, with engine options including a naturally aspirated 2,7-litre petrol mill, a 2,4-litre turbodiesel, a 2,8-litre turbodiesel and a free-breathing 4,0-litre V6 petrol unit.
