Fresh details about the facelifted Toyota Fortuner have emerged online, with a publication in Thailand claiming to have uncovered the official outputs of the SUV’s upgraded engine.

According to headlightmag.com, the refreshed Fortuner will be offered with an uprated version of the Japanese company’s 2,8-litre turbodiesel engine (as will the facelifted Hilux). The report claims the four-pot’s peak outputs will be raised from the current 130 kW and 450 N.m to 150 kW and 500 N.m.

The 2,4-litre oil-burning unit, meanwhile, is set to soldier on in Toyota’s bakkie-based SUV, offering an unchanged 110 kW and 400 N.m.

The publication furthermore claims the seven-seater Fortuner’s mid-cycle refresh will include new headlamps, a fresh grille design, a revised front bumper and alloy wheel options ranging from 18 to 20 inches. Expect new side steps, a redesigned rear bumper and tweaked taillamps to be included, too.

Inside, headlightmag.com suggests Toyota will add a new nine-inch touchscreen system (complete with Apple CarPlay), along with a wireless smartphone charger. A 360-degree camera system is also reportedly on the cards, as are expanded safety features (for the Thai market, anyway).

Interestingly, Toyota South Africa Motors recently confirmed the discontinuation of the 4,0-litre V6 petrol variant of the Fortuner as well as all manual models.

The current-generation Fortuner was revealed in 2015 before hitting the market in South Africa at the end of the first quarter of 2016. The strong-selling local range is built at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in KwaZulu-Natal.
