A fresh report out of Australia suggests the launch of the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300 may well be delayed thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to CarsGuide.com.au, Toyota chief financial officer Kenta Kon hinted at delays for new models after the Japanese firm announced its financial results for the period ending March 2020.

“Regarding new model launch plans and if there is a change or not with COVID-19 – when we have looked in the future new model plans, there will be some projects that will be delayed compared to the original plans,” Kon said, without making mention of any specific models.

“For the new model launches, we are going to take this timing as an opportunity and review what we have done in the past as business as usual,” he added.

The highly anticipated replacement for the Land Cruiser 200 was expected to launch in July 2020, before a report from March 2020 claimed it had been pushed back to 2021. Now the Australian publication suggests it may well be delayed further.

Of course, the upcoming Land Cruiser 300 isn’t the only new Toyota on the horizon, with a handful of facelifts also on the cards; the Hilux and Fortuner, for instance, are both due refreshes. Kon hinted such projects could be delayed, too.

“Some small change projects – we are doing a total review of how we should do it,” he said.
