A fresh report out of Australia claims the upcoming Toyota Land Cruiser 300 will debut an all-new 3,3-litre V6 turbodiesel engine.

According to CarsGuide.com.au (which itself cites reports out of Japan), the replacement for the Land Cruiser 200 will be the first Toyota model to use this new six-cylinder oil-burner. The new-generation Land Cruiser is expected to be revealed in March 2021.

The publication says the fresh powerplant will out-muscle the current Land Cruiser 200’s 4,5-litre V8 turbodiesel mill, which generates 195 kW and 650 N.m here in South Africa.

This lines up neatly with an earlier report suggesting the Land Cruiser 300 will be offered with a “high-torque” six-cylinder diesel unit.

The oil-burning powerplant is tipped to be joined by a twin-turbo 3,5-litre V6 petrol engine (depending on the market, of course), with an electrified version of the latter likely to follow at a later stage. In addition, Toyota is widely expected to ditch the 243 kW/460 N.m 4,6-litre V8 petrol engine employed by the outgoing model in some markets.
